Shunt privacy policy

Last updated 29 October 2026

This policy covers the Shunt: Unblock Puzzle app for iPhone, iPad and Android (“Shunt”, “the app”), made by AU Software Pty Ltd (“we”, “us”), an Australian company. We follow the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and, where they apply to you, the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulations. Questions: support@ausoftware.com.au.

In short

  • You do not need an account, and we never ask for your name or email address.
  • Your progress and settings stay on your device. We do not run servers that receive them.
  • The free version shows ads from Google AdMob, which collects information about your device, as explained below. Buying Remove ads stops that.
  • If the app crashes, a crash report goes to Sentry so we can fix it. It contains nothing that identifies you.
  • If you sign in to Game Center or Google Play Games, your scores, achievements and best results are kept by Apple or Google.

1. On your device

The app saves on your device: your best result for each puzzle, the puzzle you are playing, your settings (sound and vibration), how many puzzles you have solved (to space out ads), and whether you have bought Remove ads. This stays on the device and is deleted when you delete the app.

2. Advertising (Google AdMob)

The free version shows ads served by Google AdMob. To show ads, measure them and prevent fraud, Google’s software in the app collects and sends to Google:

  • your device’s advertising identifier (on iPhone and iPad, only if you allow tracking when the app asks);
  • your IP address, from which Google may estimate your general location;
  • how you interact with ads and the app (for example app launches and ad views);
  • diagnostic information about the app and the ad software.

In the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland, the app asks for your consent first, using Google’s consent form, and you can change your choice at any time in the app under Settings, Privacy choices. On iPhone and iPad, the app asks whether it may track you; you can change that in the device’s Settings, Privacy & Security, Tracking. On Android you can reset or delete your advertising ID in the device’s settings. Without consent or permission to track, Google may still show ads that are not personalised.

Google uses this information as described in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services and its privacy policy.

If you buy Remove ads, the app stops showing ads, and from the next time it starts it no longer starts Google’s ad software at all.

3. Crash reports (Sentry)

If the app crashes or hits an error, it sends a report to Sentry, a service we use to find and fix bugs. A report contains what went wrong in the app’s code, the app version, details of your device such as its model, operating system version, screen size, memory and language, and a random identifier created when the app was installed (so we can count how many installs have crashes). It contains no name, email address, advertising identifier or game data, and Sentry is set not to store your IP address. Reports are deleted after Sentry’s retention period, at most 90 days. See Sentry’s privacy policy.

4. Game Center and Google Play Games

Signing in is optional. If you sign in to Game Center (iPhone, iPad) or Google Play Games (Android), the app sends your Shunt Score, the achievements you earn, and a saved copy of your best results to Apple or Google, so they can show leaderboards and achievements and bring your progress to your other devices. Your player name and picture are shown to other players as set in those services. Apple and Google keep this information under their own privacy policies, and you can delete it through your Apple or Google account.

5. Purchases

Remove ads is bought through the App Store or Google Play, which handle the payment. We never see your payment details. The app only records on your device that ads are removed.

6. Children

Shunt is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

7. Where information goes

Google, Sentry and Apple may process information in the United States and other countries outside Australia, under their own safeguards for international transfers. We do not sell your information, and we do not share it with anyone other than the services named above.

8. Your rights

You can ask us what information we hold about you, and ask us to correct or delete it, by emailing support@ausoftware.com.au. Because the app has no accounts, we usually hold nothing that we can link to you; we will tell you so, and point you to Google, Apple or Sentry where they hold it. If you are unhappy with our answer, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au) or, in the EU or UK, your local data protection authority.

9. Changes

If this policy changes, we will update it here and change the date at the top.
